Remembering Mr Lee Kuan Yew…

I remember seeing his name in the list of reading materials for my History classes in Secondary School and also Junior College. I remember the times where I dreaded studying on Singapore history, I don’t know why.

For those who don’t study history, don’t take an interest in politics, don’t care about who our leaders are or who were the ones who fought for us and gave us what we have today, I guess his passing wouldn’t matter to you anyway.

For me, I felt like a giant sand bag sitting on the floor. I can’t decide what to feel – emotionless like it didn’t matter, or to feel sad. But I’m feeling a little sad undeniably, especially after watching the video of our Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong addressing the public and breaking the news. He must have had a lot to shoulder – anguish, pain and sadness which he had to swallow everything inside. On one hand, it’s his father. On the other, it’s state matter and he must not put personal emotions into it.

I wish I knew Mr Lee Kuan Yew more… not as a leader, but as a person. Feels like he’s a grandpa I never knew or never had.

But life has to go on, and life will go on.

Here are some photos that Raymond took of Mr Lee Kuan Yew some years back at a forum;

This is one of my favourite shot. Something personal about the man. No matter how high a peak you have scaled in life, at the end of the journey we are all human being.
